Hot Water doesnot work in Bathtub (but does in Shower)
The hot water does not work in any of my three bath tubs. It will start hot (130 degrees) but within 3 minutes the temperature is down to 70 degrees. The showers work that are connected to the bathtub, and all taps in the house have constant hot water. What could my issue be?

Do you know if you have an electric water heater and does it have two elements?

It is electric but I don't think it has two elements. The house is only 1 year old (if that matters).

Here is what I think is happening. You tub faucet putd out a much larger volume of water and after 3 minutes you've used up about 15-20 gallos on water. You faucets put out much less volume so you can get hot water for 6-12 minutes. This is a wild guess but I think you have a two element heater and one element is out. I can't really tell for sure but it is worth investigating. This is a bit like playing the game of Clue. Write back if you have more info. How large is your heater?

Thanks. I will ltake a look tonight and see. I am not sure th esize off hand either. The water temperature consistanly falls over the three minutes though, it is not an immediate drop off at the 3 min mark. Your response has been veryu helpful. Thanks again! I'll let you know what I find.
