Looking for a Baseball Figure on Cost to Repair? As mentioned in a Previous Thread / Post Wanting to get rid of Condensation in the Bathroom and where to Exhaust the Condensation.. Well Wonder of Wonders, We've Opened Up a Can of Worms and this is the 1st year in our 9 Winters in our present home to be faced with this I may add.. Attempted to Open the Trap Door to the Attic so We could have a look see, the Trap door was Jamming as I was pounding / pushing on all sides.. Could only move it up a couple inches but in doing so I we could see evidence of Black Mold and Wetness on the inside of the door rim on the attic side.. There is No Evidence on the Underside of any Wetness or Black Mold along the Ceilings... The House is "L-Shaped" 938sq ft.

It's the Unknown , What is Waiting? Take the Whole Roof Off or What? From the Outside the Roof Line has a Decent Pitch, but I do know from the Attic it's a Crawl Space and Wiggle Room to move around through the Trusses..

How is the attic ventilated? (Generally, soffits let air in under the overhangs, and draws air up to a vent or vents: gable, ridge, or small square ones on the roof slope, either passive or electric).
Is there a vapor barrier between the ceiling and the insulation between the floor joists?
Is there anything done wrong, such as insulation in the soffits or stuffed between rafters?
Are there multiple sources of moisture from below that don't have any venting out (showers, kitchen, dryer)?

This is the 1st Winter in 9 yrs of Ownership we've had any Major Condensation Issues.. This House came with No Kitchen or Bathroom Exhaust Fans.. The Clothes Dryer is the Only Unit Vented to the Outside.. May have to just Break the Attic Trap Door to have our Look See... It was Jammed Pretty Tight...

Absolutely.. lol.. You know , Nature of the Beast Expect the Worst and Prepare the Mind Set for the Expense? Got a Look See and Found Everything to be Dry as Bone , No Black Mold or Dampness on the Trusses.. There was ample Styrofoam Ribbing coming up from the Soffitts.. And plenty of Daylight coming from the Gable End of the Rafters... There is Blown In Insulation , 1970's Era Installation..lol.. Strangly there is an Unopened Bale of Batten Insulation and 2 / 15ft rows of batten insulation, spread out like a deck of cards on their side, Not Flat(Odd)?? The Next Step will be choosing where to exhaust the condensation to the Outside... The Mrs. wants to change the lighting in the Bathroom as well, got my work cut out for me.. Cheers Thanks..

It does sound like no vents, and perhaps even kitchen or bath is venting into attic. But without exploring, no way to know

The House was Built 1973 @ a Time the R2000 Air Tight idea was coming into Play... There is a Kitchen Hood Fan / Catch Screen , To Nowhere.. lol.. The plan this Spring on the Wife's To Do List is to Reno the Bathroom.. Installing a Bathroom Exhaust Fan and Rearranging the Lighting will be a Priority, plus checking around the Window as most of the Condensation collects around there during the Winter Months (Window Closed / Furnace Running) Heat Loss.. lol...
