    Xanax and alcohol
A friend of mine just told me she got drunk last night and she thinks she took between 4 to 5 MG of xanax. Obviously she woke up but is she still in danger. I have convinced her to get help for her drinking but right now I'm worried about what she did last night.

Two questions posted. At least this one has more info than the other one.

How is she feeling? How many hours since she took the xanax?

Not sure of exact time I just know it was last night. She said she feels fine but she admitted she is scared to go to sleep tonight. I figured since she woke up she should be fine but I don't know what to tell her and she won't go to hospital

I'm new at this so please excuse the repeat answers... she didn't say what time I just know it was last night and she was drunk when she took them. She said she feels OK

Sadly, without knowing her medical history, no one online can give a guarantee that she'll be okay. It's not possible to do.

If she feels she's fine, why is she afraid to go to sleep tonight? Only a doctor, one she sees in person, would be able to determine if she's actually okay.

Sounds like she needs a bit of wake up call when it comes to mixing drugs with alcohol. Not a good idea. She's lucky she woke up.

I told her she needs help. She swears she will get some help for her drinking . She said she is afraid she might not wake up if she goes to sleep. My thought was if she didn't take anymore and if she stays away from the booze she should be OK. I don't know much about stuff like this. I tried Google but only got stupid stuff where people were bragging about mixing the 2

If she took the drugs and alcohol last night she will be fine as long as she doesn't take any tonight.

Ok. I thought so but I wanted advice as to whether I should demand she go to the hospital. Thanks so much.

There is absolutely no reason to go to the hospital nearly 24 hours after the ingestion of these substances. If there were a danger it would have been within an hour or so after she took the Xanax while drunk.

Xanax or it's other name Alprazolam as you may know is used to treat anxiety and panic disorders.

It's in a class of drugs called benzodiazepines which effect the brain and nerves ( Central Nervous system ) to produce a calming effect and works by enhancing the effects of a certain natural chemical in the body ( GABA ).

" I'm worried about what she did last night. "

    Yea I would be to.

Apart from the fact these side effects can occur

    - Drowsiness
    - dizziness
    - Increased saliva production

it can have an effect or change a persons sex drive.

Basically meaning while she was under the influence of it and the alcohol it would have been easier to possible have Sex with her or even rape her.

Was she with you the whole night while taking this stuff ?

Anyway the effects of the Xanax and Alcohol should be wearing off if not fully, though if she wasn't with you the whole night , I would get her to examine down below for any signs of rape or sex and if there are go to the doctor.

I also would tell her not to repeat this ever again , it is possible that she may not wake up next time.

She was lucky to wake up and feel fine but it's pushing her luck to repeat mixing her drugs with alcohol. Bad enough to not follow a prescription as directed, adding alcohol makes things a lot worse. I seriously doubt a doctor prescribed 4 or 5 Xanax in a night. That alone would be a red flag that something is wrong. Seeing the doctor that prescribed her Xanax would be the thing to do, rather than a hospital.

This is alcohol AND prescription drug abuse. Her doctor should be informed immediately.

She is now in a rehab. Unfortunately I was not with her at all when this happened in was home with my family. She realized she had a problem when I told her the danger of what could have happened and how it would have devastated her children and grandchildren. Thank you all for the responses.
