Black sediment in cold water pipes rust in hot water pipes

I have black sediment stuck in fixtures for all cold water pipes and rust out of the hot. Could this have to do with not changing a water filter on the main? The black sediment looks like carbon particles and I am afraid that it has effected my water heater also.
Lawn mower battery sparks when connecting negative terminal

Wife caused blade to seize. Battery died. Jumped and ran OK. Installing new battery so I don't have to keep jumping. Positive connected first. Lots of sparks when attempting to connect the negative terminal. What gives? Did the temporarily seized blade damage something that is shorting?

Spark when connecting positive battery post

I just replaced the solenoid on my LT12 Snapper rider and noticed a small spark when I connect the positive post to the battery. Is this normal? The wire hook ups are correct.
