    Kenmore Series 600 dryer
I bought a Kenmore dryer about 2 weeks ago and it makes a loud rattle when running. The repair man came out, took the dryer apart and replaced the heating coil, which he thinks is the only thing that could be causing the noise. It still rattles--very loudly. I want to return the unit but fear that all new dryers may be the same. We had our last Kenmore for about 20 years and it never sounded like this. Is this usual these days? Is there anything that can be done about this or do I need to look at other brands?

No all dryer don't do this like make a noise, I suggest taking it back for another Kenmore but this time upgrade and spend a little more if you can afford it on at least a Kenmore 70 series dryer - you get more for your money and a better made dryer.

I have no clue why the tech would think the element would be the cause of the loud noise. (Well actually I do know, because they hire people that don't know what they're doing!)
You are correct, appliances are not built like they used to be.
I would call them back if the noise is unusually loud, you don't want it to break down after the warranty runs out.

Does it have something to do with the fact that it isn't a stainless steel drum? I am now afraid of being burned by another Kenmore.

Don't be afraid, you got a warranty, don't break it down and try to fix it, take it back or have them come get it. I have owned many Kenmore's, you just got a bad one.

Doesn't have anything to do with a SS drum, almost all dryers DO NOT have SS drum, no reason for it.
Kenmore washers and dryers have always been made by Whirlpool, which also makes Roper and Kitchen Aid.
For the money it is not a bad brand.
