    Is This Depression?
Hi there. For 6 months now I have been feeling strange... I have been suffering a loooong sinus infection as told by the doctor but nooo meds helped. Then I started getting incredibly tired and started losing my interest in almost everything. I also got engaged to the person who I neeeever questioned in my life as we were going out for 3 years. Now, as I got tired I eventually got new symptoms: feeling fuzzy/spaced out 24/7 (and have been still for 6 months.. it's never let up:O) which made me question my life and everyone in it, even my fiancée and I almost broke up with him 5 times but never could because when I did he would cry sooo much and I hated hurting him it broke my heart... I love him. I ask myself if I really do but that's only because nothing in my life feels the same anymore... I feel spaced out and this is the ONLY thing that is RUINING MY LIFE... I can't help believe that life will never be or feel the same for me... will I be the happy girl I used to be... who could make decisions clearly and who could concentrate all the time and bearly ever have a single negative thought in her head and feel the same happiness with my fiancée? Now also, my fiancée has given me NO reasons to question him. I feel that if my spacey feeling is gone then my life will be back and happy again. I am just wondering: how do I know if I am truly depressed or am depressed because I have had this sinus infection so long? I am taking Prozac right now as prescribed by my family doctor and am on my third week of taking it... my spaceyness is still here. Has anyone else eveeeer felt this way? If so, did it go away... WILL IT GO AWAY?

I got put on Prozac after the birth of my first child and although my symptoms were different from yours, it took a full 2 weeks for me or anyone around me to notice a positive change. Do you have a OB/GYN? You may want to follow up with him/her because they are more familiar with women and depression/anxiety. Yes, it will go away or be maintained with meds. Be proactive and don't "sink into yourself'. Talk to your doctor if you truly feel it is not better. A medication change may do the trick-just don't stop current meds abruptly-talk about being wacko! Good luck!

It very well could be depression, but have you had your thyroid checked recently? You very well could have a thyroid problem. Thyroid problems are aften mistaken for depression.

    Please have this checked out.

Hi there. Actually, it's almost funny you asked that thyroid question because yes, I did get it checked (blood/urine and by someone who can tell what is wrong sometimes by looking in your eyes... I forget the name) and she asked me to take my morning temperature first thing when I get up every day and record it... on average I had 30 degrees in 2 weeks and am on vitamins and minerals to balance my thyorid.

I have been there more often than not in my life... The meds help a lot - they don't "cure" depression but they are more of a tool to help you get your life back in order and be able to manage the things you need to manage (at least that's what I feel... I get so mad when my family members call them "happy pills"... )

Definitely talk to your regular doc/GP/internist... He'll probably order some bloodwork to rule out whatever he can...

I was diagnosed as bipolar 12 years ago and as it turns out I'm not actually bipolar- I had a giant non-cancerous tumor growing on my parathyroid gland which wasn't discovered until last summer (and they removed it and I do feel a bit better... I still have depression but not huge swings... )

Good luck, best wishes, big hugs,
    Bek
