No one can say what each woman will be like using a new birth control, or even continuing birth control. There's no reason to be worried by spotting, or to expect to bleed more. Can you explain why you are worried? If it's an IUD, and you bleed more, you call your doctor's office and leave a message.

Mary... have you been using birth control pills prior to this or is this your first use of them? How long have you been using this new birth control? If you just started using them, it would be wise to also use another form of birth control. The type of pill you are using, can depend on how soon you will actually be able to rely on it for possible protection from pregnancy. When your doctor prescribed them, did he/she explain when they would start being effective? The spotting is coming from the uterus, so there shouldn't be any effect from having sex. However, that doesn't mean that the spotting can't turn to some light bleeding just from the pill use alone. Spotting or light bleeding can be common in the early months of pill use.

You need to be on birth control pills from 2 week, to one full month, for them to be in effect. ( depending on type) I still personally recommend a full month.

So if you just started taking, they will not protect you yet

Merely spotting, and if you did bleed more.. sorry, still do not see the issue.
