Payne PH10JH042-C Air Conditioner not working
My mother just had this a/c cleared before the season. It is about 8 or 9 years old. The breaker box shows fine, but I slid them off then on anyway. I replaced the batteries in the thermostat box in the hallway. Is there a reset switch I don't know about? I can provide pics if necessary. We have had continuous rain for days, with lightning a few miles away---but everything else works fine. This unit sits protected under a high-ceilinged deck. Thx for quick help! Ruth's daughter

You haven't told us much! Is anything working? Outside unit runs? Air handler runs? Set on heat instead of AC?

Thanks ma0641 for helping us in this. Nothing works... No outside, no inside... not sure what an air handler is... but the unit is totally silent. I verified that the thermostat is definitely on a/c... I tried both the "auto" and "on" settings. No go. I reset a switch for some appliances in the house, as well as did the off/on the breakers for the a/c. (which hadn't been thrown). I went on the mfg site looking for a manual, but they only show the 3 new models. I'm just a graphic designer with an inquisitive "Macguyver" mind... this stuff, well... I just figured there was a reset switch, like my old furnace had. :-/ appreciate your suggestions. :-)

I have pics of the thermostat's inside/motherboard, a gray junction box on an exterior wall by the unit with the wiring in it, and the label on the back side of the unit with all the technical stuff. There is nothing blocking the fan blades...all is very clean. Wish I could post pics here.

If nothing at all works, T'stat shows a reading? Open up the air handler(fan case) on the inside unit and look for a small auto fuse on the control board, usually a 5 amp. Check that. Could be an animal chewed the wires at the condenser- (outside unit). Look there too. Weedwackers do a lot of damage to Low Voltage wiring. You can post pics, click on the "go advanced" box.

Thank you once again. :-) all wires are fine. The thermostat did show a reading. Whether in "auto" or "on" the fan/blower didn't kick in. Mom broke down and called in her usual Carrier heating and a/c repairman... whom we rarely, rarely have to call. Turns out that his diagnosis was "float switch was stuck" and he had to "clear the drain line."(whatever that means lol)
