Lower back pain and missed period
I am 29 and I have endometriosis. My husband and I have been sent to see a fertility doctor in the next few weeks by our obgyn after not being able to get pregnant. Since I have been off birth control I have had very regular periods. Currently I'm 8 days late though with very bad lower back pain and some lower pelvis cramping. I've had cysts on both ovaries before but this pain feels different. It's uncomfortable and irritating but not sharp. I did take a pregnancy test just to rule that out and it was negative. Any suggests on what it could be? We have to pay out of pocket for the fertility doctor so I'm wanting this to be resolved before we go. Thanks.

    Hi Amy,

The pain could very well be due to the endometrioisis. How long have you been having regular periods off the birth control? Had they been irregular prior? Pregnancy could still be a possibility, but it could be just an irregular cycle due to another reason as well.

If you still don't have a period after several more days, try another pregnancy test. If the pain continues, or gets worse, you could see your obgyn about that instead of the fertility doctor.

They have been regular to the day for over a year since getting off this last stent of birth control. Prior to that they would vary a few days but for the most part were regular.

You could have tested early; wait a week and try again. There are other reasons your period might be late and the endometriosis could be one of them. Stress, anticipation, anxiety, and illness are others. As Doula said, if it gets worse or your period doesn't come, than you should see your OB.
