Is there an endpoint to the payment of federally court ordered restitution
I have been ordered to make monthly restitution payments -- do I have do this for the rest of my life or is there a point in time when this will end? I have been told that after 20 years I won't have to pay anymore -- is this true? If so, when does the clock start?

Doesn't the judgment of conviction (or restitution order) say? I assume it has a total amount and the amount of the monthly payments, correct? What are these figures?
The reason I ask is that the ending date would depend upon those figures. Say, for example, the restitution amount was $1,000,000, and the monthly payment required was $83.33 ($1,000 per year). It would be paid off in 1,000 years, but it is doubtful that you will live that long. |
