    HVAC serviceman said I had a "bacterial growth" inside my inner unit
    HVAC serviceman said I had a "bacterial growth" inside my inner unit and on its coils and would require UV treatment to clean it and would cost about $1500. Really?

    I hope you chased him out with a big stick. What you had was a crooked salesman in technician's clothes. You coil can be cleaned with any good evaporator cleaner. UV lights may help to prevent future growth but so will routine maintenance.
