    Hot water pipe disconnected, but when I turn on cold water it drains out the hot.

    So I am guessing this is a single handled faucet, right?

    Unless you turn the handle all the way to the cold side it will bleed over inside the cartridge and come out the hot pipe. Regards, Tom
