    Bathtub diverter problem
We have an old claw foot tub. We bought a new faucet that comes with a hand held shower. 10 years later, if you turn the hand held shower on, only Half of the water comes out. The other half of the water comes out of the faucet. Why doesn't the shower work full force anymore? How can I stop the water from coming out of the faucet at the same time? I am hoping the is just a gasket problem. Thank you, Kris

    Hi Kris

Disconnect the hand-held shower from the shower hose first...see if something is clogging things up. You may even want to disconnect the hose from the tub valve...again, see if there is any blockage.

Otherwise, you could take a picture of the faucet and bring it over to a local plumbing supply house and see what the guys at the counter think. If they happen to have a repair kit, you luck out. Unfortunately, these diverters are not usually repairable. If that fails to help you then at least you can choose a new claw foot tub faucet while you are there!!

    Just remember...don't blame the messenger...;)

My problem IS in the diverter. Not matter what you do with the push down valve, most of the water still exits the tub faucet & very little exits the shower faucet. My research has shown that there are 2 types of diverter spouts: slip-on & threaded. Mine must be a slip-on because I feel an...
