Random wet spots in carpet - no leak confirmed by plumber
Hello, two days ago I noticed 3-4 random wet spots on my living room carpet within a 4' range and they don't seem to be drying. Our plumber came out and went into the crawl space and didn't find any wetness on the flooring nor any leaks in pipes (checked the main - no water on/dial didn't move). We've had unusually cold temperatures here (snow/below freezing for 5 days, should be melted and gone within another 2-5 days), so maybe the cold air has affected something else in our house to make this happen? We did have water seep into the floors near an exterior hose bib, but these spots are at least 6-8 feet away from that area and they are random and not one full patch, so don't think they are related. This is on the first floor right above our crawl space. Any ideas what this could be?

Random, as in a straight line doesn't connect them?

I'd go with the exterior spigot. Just because it's far away doesn't mean water isn't going from there to the lowest spots in the floor. Floors generally sag, along the walls being the highest parts.

Many times there is a dedicated shutoff in the cellar for outside water. Follow the plumbing back to see if there is one you can shut off, even temporarily if it also goes somewhere else.

Yes, the spots run in a straight line. They seem to be more dry tonight compared to this morning and with the floors being lower than the walls the exterior faucet could definitely be the culprit. Thanks for your reply - hopefully things will continue to dry up and mystery solved!
