    Toilet leak?
I put food coloring in my toilet tank and it started coming up out of the toilet bowl drain? How is this possible and how do I fix it?

    Hi Mcjosh

The toilet flapper is old/defective and is letting water leak by.

Shut off the water supply to the toilet and then take the existing flapper out and take it to home depot (or lowes/menards) and see if you can find an exact match. If no exact match is available you can try the "universal fit" flapper, but if that fails and there is no match at a local home improvement store you'll need to bring that old flapper over to a local plumbing supply and get the exact replacement part, OK?

After replacing the flapper let it sit overnight and then try the food coloring again... see if the replacement worked. If it worked, great! If it did not work you may need to replace the entire flush valve mechanism, but try the flapper replacement first!

I agree with Mark but a toilet "bowl " drain leak would infer a leak onto the floor. A "tank " leak would go into the bowl. Is that the issue?
