Hello- I have swelling on the floor left side of the toilet. This is the same side where the water feedine to the tank comes up . I suspect the problem is with the base of the toilet.
If I get down on my knees and get next to the toilet I can hear a faint sound like water running. Should I turn off the valve feeding water to the toilet and stop using it until the problem is fixed?
What would be the fix to this? Replacing the wax gasket connecting the toilet to the main pipe? Will I have to replace the section of floor or will it dry out after the problem's fixed?

Depends on how swelled the floor is if need to be replaced. The wax ring is probably the problem. If it was the water supply lines the floor would be wet all the time

If you hear water running it is probably the supply line. If you cannot see the water it is probably the supply line inside the wall. Turning off the stop valve will not stop the leak if it is inside the wall. You will have to turn off the water to that bath if you can. If you can't turn off the water to the bath you should call a plumber immediately.

Let's check and see if you have a hidden leak. To check to see if you have a hidden leak first shut down everything in the house, no flush, no drinks of water, and if you are on a meter go out and check the little pointer in the gage. It should not move or creep. If it does you have a leak. If you're on a pump then check the pressure gage after the pump builds up to pressure and shuts off. The gage should not fall and the pump come back on. If so then you have a leak. Hope this helps and thank you for rating my reply, Tom
