My husband and I live in Norman, OK and have a 16 year old daughter that has been out of control for the last 2 years. We have done everything in our power to get help for her since this behavior has started. Our court system, police, City Attorneys, Office of Juvenile Affairs, (the list goes on and on) has done NOTHING for her criminal actions and she knows there's no consequences for her criminal behavior since we are the ones They hold accountable. We have decided we wanted to sign our parental rights over to the State. Are we allowed to do that? If so how do we go about it?

You can't sign rights away. You can check the emancipation law for your state and tell her these are the things she has to do then she can get her own apartment once she has taken the steps by law.

Washing your hands of a child you brought Into the world is not my idea of good parenting after as you say trying everything and nothing has worked. You obviously missed the mark somewhere and have llet her run ruffshod over your lives for some time. You have give up too easily. Just what 'criminal offences' has she committed? Sixteen year old girls have hormones running all over the place and I would say 80 percent of them do t know which way to turn for help so just go haywire.

Are you posting in two names? If not another person has exactly the same problem -

Children aren't puppies. They can't be returned. If she's dangerous to others or herself go to Court and request that she be hospitalized.

You can't walk away from a child you raised because things aren't going well.

No you can't sign your rights away. You could have her committed to an institution if you can convince a court that is best for her.
