    Auger through drain instead of overflow
    Hello.

    I was using a 1/4" flat-tape-style sink auger to snake my bathtub drain. Rather than going through the overflow located above the drain which I now know is the correct way to have done this, I removed the screen and sent the auger directly through the drain itself.

    It remedied the clog, but now knowing that I should have gone through the overflow, I'm wondering how bad of a mistake this was in going directly through the drain and the potential for damage I may have caused to the pipe.

    Is this worth calling a plumber to check on, or is it unlikely that this instance would cause any damage? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    You are lucky it didn't get caught. The turn below the tub is 90 degrees. I do not see a problem if everything operates OK.

    Snake should not make the sharp 90 degree turn going from horizontal to vertical drain. If you made it - than I agree with above post: you got lucky. Next time, use overflow. Milo

    YHou ran into a tee (see image) No harm done. I want to know how you removed the clog? Certainly not through the drain. Let me know, Tom
