    Upstairs shower best flooring
    I have to replace the shower in my upstairs bathroom and don't know what flooring or if a bathtub would be the best to use to prevent leaks. I have a lot of visitors and need something durable.

    If the item is installed correctly you should have no problems with leaking.

    Put in what you feel is going to be the most use to you.

    A tub with a shower head will satisfy all people. It would be best to have a tub enclosure instead of a shower curtain.

    Looking at it from the leak angle you have more chances of a leak from a shower then a tub. The reason being is that showers have more places to leak from. But as Creahands pointed out, if both are installed correctly. Either one is a good choice. Good luck, Tom

    If shower only than I suggest you go with "hot mop" method. If tub/shower combo than there is nothing to worry about - just set the tub. Milo

    If leaking is a concern then a One piece tub surround with shower is the way to go. If either a shower itself OR a tub/shower combination is installed properly, leaking should never be a problem.

    If you have an eye toward resale value, the highest end is a separate all marble/stone tile shower with glass, rain shower, and jetted tub elsewhere in the room or a separate room.
    Second resale value is a tub-shower with tile and glass.
    The more glass sides the better.
    The bigger the tiles on the floor the better. Requires super flat smooth substrate.

    I happen to want a shower only, preferably one piece acrylic, in one bathroom. I'm getting too old to climb over the tub and too lazy to clean grout. One piece sets are just fine but sort of out of favor if you have snooty guests.
    Caulk the tub when full of water so it is lower by a micron.
    Caulk well along the edge of the base, at the floor.
    There's Hardiboard/durarock, membranes, greenboard, paperless board, mud floors and special drain flanges that look like flower petals - all the new products and techniques to keep water out of the walls and floors.
