I moved in with a friend who I knew for a while and discovered he was very unsanitary and rarely bathed and played and eat his own feces. During the time we lived together; I made him move when I found out what he was doing, I became sick with one bacterial infection after another. He handled food, which I eat and never washed his hands. As soon as I got the apartment cleaned and disinfected, I am back to normal health. My Doctor could find no cause for the infections as I had never had them before. Is it possible he was making me sick? He would wear soiled underwear for days and would mix food with his feces. Trust me I found it.

That's so gross. Sounds to me that if you were sick when he was there but not now, it could be from him being unsanitary.

Anyhow, yes. Chances are that is what made you sick.

The intestinal tract is an amazing thing. First your stomach baths the food in acid to break down and destroy a lot of the food and bacteria. Then it is sent through the intestines where the acid is neutralized and all the nutrients that you can be absorbed from the food is. The fun part is that we don't digest a lot of the food ourselves but rely on a host of bacteria to break down the food. The bacteria get some stuff from it and release nutrients for us. It is a symbiotic relationship. You have specific areas that are colonized by specific bacteria.

Most food poisoning occurs when something from the outside world gets to where it shouldn't be. Take E. coli for example. It is a bacteria in your gut. It is good and we're all happy with it. When you get a bacteria that is meant for cattle in your gut, E. Coli 0157H7 for example, it wrecks havoc because what it releases, while beneficial for cattle, isn't for humans. Thus we get it out the most quick way possible.

One of the fun things is though, the exact bacterial colonies, in both species and numbers, are unique to a person. You could identify a person based upon their poop. A poop print if you would. Isn't science fun!

Anyhow, a lot of the bacteria is meant to be in our guts, so when it is put elsewhere, skin or mucus membranes, it will thrive and make us sick.

So his person hygenie habits might have been the cause for your sicknesses. Thankfully that is past you. You might want to talk to social services about this, I am not sure what can be done about this but there should something. It is unsanitary.

TL;DR: Bacteria in gut good! Bacteria meant for gut but not in gut BAD!

I asked his parents point blank while he was standing there. They said it is his life and my comment was, it's a sickness and he needs professional help and you're unwilling to do anything. I asked them point blank what was the matter with them if they care no more for their child than that. They didn't answer. Thanks for all the comments.
