Do I have to remove IUD after 5 years?
I gave birth of my son on February, 2008 @ C-Section.
On April, 2008 my gynecologist recommended me to use IUD as I don't want to have any more babies.
She told me she is inserting the one which will be for 5 years.
It will be 5 years on April now.

MY QUESTION IS IF I LIKE TO KEEP IT LITTLE BIT LONGER WILL IT BE PROBLEM?

I never had any issues with the IUD since I had it on.
If I want to remove it after 6 months or one year is it okay?

Actually I am on vacation now & out of country.......I won't be able to go back home right now.
And I don't want to show any doctor other than my own.
Can you please let me know @ your earliest convenience?

    Thank You.

There's a bit of debate online about this and personally I'm not really sure.

But, from what I've read there may be a risk for heavy menstruation and possibly infection (though why it would decided to get infected now as opposed to a month ago when it was there, I have no idea). On the other hand people have said that they've left theirs in with no problems.

The only real risk I can see it causing in the short term is decreased effectiveness meaning you should probably use a condom (you can't use birth control pills and this at the same time even if it's older, as there's still probably some hormones changes). And of course if you do want to get pregnant you should definitely get it removed.

If you can I would try and get a hold of your doctor and explain your situation and get a professional opinion. It can't hurt to ask, just to make sure.
