It's hard to say because any place could have a bad or dishonest worker. You mention Sears, Walmart, Goodyear... these are chains and as such, you would expect them to be upright and honest but there is no telling if someone at any of their hundreds of stores may be dishonest.

I have known many dishonest shops but at the same time, I have also known plenty of honest ones as well. The best thing you can do is shop around, ask around where you live, and see what others have to say.

I agree, without naming a specific place, several of the quick oil change places try it, a large national sewer rotor company tried to cheat me for 1000's, and some of the ones you named have been bad

Just like you would build a relationship with your family doctor, it's very important that you build a relationship with an auto repair facility, hopefully prior to needing major work.
Along the way (like while having routine maintenance done) you can find out about their experience and knowledge. If you sit in the waiting room, you can witness how they handle other customers.
Any chance you get to learn more about their ethics and honesty will be time well spent.

Tire is flat, now what do I do? [ 1 Answers ]

I feel like such a dummy on this one. I was driving home and got a flat. I was about a 1/2 mile from home and so I drove it back (I've heard that was a bad idea, but I didn't know it at the time). So, here's the question, do I call a tow truck and take it to the Tire Store? Or does the Tire...

Flat tire [ 2 Answers ]

Yesterday I had a flat tire on the interstate. So I ease my car over to the shoulder of the road, carefully get out of the car and open the trunk. I took out 2 cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear of my car facing oncoming traffic. They look so lifelike you wouldn't believe!...
