    Craftsman 5hp 22 inch snowblower
Model 536.886140... my question is... When the auger clutch is engaged should the belt be tight? I changed the belt and when the clutch is engaged the auger idler pushes against the belt however it is not very tight... I have adjusted the cable to the max point... any titer the auger runs by itself without the cable being engaged... so I would think its as tight as can be... any input would be greatly appreciated.. thanks!

Your idler (tensioner) should take up the slack. With a new belt, you should likely be loosening the linkage (because the old belt became longer). Look at your tensioner, it might just need to be freed-up with some penetrating oil, or need to be replaced.
