    How rare is my case?
    To whom it may concern: At age 35 I got Type 1 (insulin dependent ) diabetes. I was at the time, and always have been my perfect ideal weight ---- never more than two pounds overweight. So---- how did I get type 1 diabetes? They also call it juvenile diabetes because it usually has its onset during childhood.

    Your case isn't rare at all. Actually it is quite common. How you got it exactly is typically unknown.
