    Heil Furnace Cam-Stat
Hi--Ievery 6 months the cam-stat goes and has to be replaced. Furnace just blows cold air. We're on a maintenance program, so the gas company comes and just replaces the part (8 times so far!! ). Is this a chronic problem with these furnaces. Has anyone experienced this and how can it be fixed? I'm so aggravated that I'm about to go off and buy a new furnace just to have piece of mind----it's 7 degrees this morning.

Is this "cam-stat" a fan and limit control?

Is it the fan part or the limit part that fails?

If it is the limit part I'd find out why my unit is reaching its high limit and stop that from happening,

If it's the fan part I'd check to see why, maybe the fan motor is pulling to many amps or the wheel is to heavy coils dirty etc, it is very unusual for 8 parts to be needed.

Jeesh I guess the unit could be too big for the ductwork and that would cause the limit to open too, so there are a lot of possibilities only a professional actually being there could tell for sure

Hi---It is both a fan and limit control. I don't think it's the fan part. Last night the heat didn't come on. I tapped on the unit and the gas ignited and we had heat----so far it's been working. I read some other postings and it appears that this particular fan limit control is considered unreliable. I've found a Heil approved part and will install that.
    Thanks.

Cam-stat fan limit controls are more problematic than say a Honeywell fan and limit, the reason being that the contacts are exposed to the dirty air stream. A Honeywell contol can usually be fitted for use in most furnaces. The main causes for this control to fail is, 1. The limit is opening to many times, see stick at top of page about overheating and limiting out and, 2. like I already said poor air quality.
