    Changing out condenser fan motor
I am changing out one of the condenser fan motors on a 10 ton rooftop unit. The existing motor is a GE and has a black, white, and one brown wire coming from the cap. I bought a AO Smith motor, all specs match up, amps, volts, phase, rpms, except, I have a brown wire and a brown wire w/white stripe. My question is, can I cut the solid brown wire and nut it off and connect my black, white and use the one brown/white stripe to the existing cap wire. I know I can extend both cap wires back to where I want to keep the cap and do it that way. But, if it will work this other way, it would save me some down time. The motor I'm installing is ORM5458.
