Any human needs to imbibe fluids on a daily basis. But I suspect you refer to drinking alcohol.

It depends on their responsibilities on the trip and the amount of drinking. So we really can't answer your question without understanding the situation.

If you are talking about alcohol, no they cannot drink, nor can they smoke as they are representatives of the school and have to be a positive influence on the children.

And I guess it may depend on what type of trip, Is this a business trip for a Teacher to be in a conference with other teachers and they go out to dinner after conference ?

As a teacher, I can tell you that we are always supposed to show that we are responsible adults in our community. If the drinking involved alcohol on a school-sponsored trip (field trip or instructional trip with students), then that is a violation of ethics. A No-No! If the teacher was out with friends or other teachers, even at a conference, they may consume alcohol, but the district, union, or whoever paid for the conference cannot be billed for it in the daily stipend. Let me know more so I can help.

Let me ask this. Six teachers accompany students on a school trip, lets say a weekend with 2 nights. Lets say the teachers agree that they split supervision so 3 of them take the first night and the other 3 the second night (assuming that 3 are enough to monitor the students in their rooms).

So the 3 off duty teachers go out for dinner. They have a beer or a glass of wine with dinner. Which they, of course pay for. Is this wrong? I wouldn't think so, hence my response. I don't think it is absolute that a teacher can't drink alcohol on a school trip as long as they are responsible about it.

Clearly, they cannot imbibe alcohol in the presence of the students and even more clearly, they cannot get drunk while children are in their care.
