Keeping current with the spammers latest techniques
I use MailWasher to filter spam. I love it - and from a browsing of the various filtering apps, it seems they're still either the best or nearly the best...

It's becoming increasingly hard to filter spam due to the crap they're peddling being put into an image, and either "Re" by itself or some random words in either/both the subject line and the body.

There's no doubt other stuff they do to get past the filters... and I know d*** well that blacklisting the email address doesn't go far to stop it since most of them are bogus anyway...

Do any of y'all know any tricks or tips for filtering this sort of stuff?

    Thanks!

Are you referring to private email? Get a gmail account, it has by far the best spam filter, I get about 12 spam emails a day and I have never had a single one, in 3 years, get into my inbox, they go into a spam folder and are automatically deleted each month.

If we are talking about a business account, we use spamsoap it's very good too, but it's definitions of spam are almost too strong, some actual work emails get blocked so we have to check each day to see that nothing work related got blocked.

You can block image-based spam (for the most part) by simply disallowing anything that consists purely of an attached or imbedded image, or by filtering with the standard method on the text components of the message where there is an image. If it's possible that people will be sending image-based legitimate mail, then you'll have to set up a system to white-list by address or domain.

Also, if it's feasible, you can cross-reference the images being sent and block by volume of identical images... that's likely a non-trivial solution, though, as you'll have to catalog everything that comes in.
