    Remove metal shower pan
    I am in the process of removing my shower pan. We had several leaks, the pitch was wrong, it was tiled with the horizontal tiles over the vertical one's, and it was just a mess. We hired someone to re-tile it for us and I had to change the drain because that was a problem as well. I chipped out all of the drain pan cement and tile and the curb. The tile guy said we had to remove the metal drain pan. I think it is lead. So, I cut the cement away from the first course of tile at the bottom, which went OK. So, Now I have the metal pan sides. I'm having a real problem trying to pull out the corners and have some sections of the sides still up there. They seem to go under the second course of tiles. I can cut it down and could leave it there.

    Two questions:

    1: Can I just leave what it left of the shower pan and have the tile guy use just a bit less thickness on the mud in those areas? It's only the thickness of the old pan?

    2: Any good ideas on how to pull out the folded corners?

    No! Remove the tile and the rest of the pan. If installed correctly your new pan should have lips that go as high as the old pan.

    Remove all the tile from over the pan and simply pull them off. It sounds like you're trying to save a course or two of tile. Pull them off and get that pan out of there. Good luck, Tom
