I am in the process of removing my shower pan. We had several leaks, the pitch was wrong, it was tiled with the horizontal tiles over the vertical one's, and it was just a mess. We hired someone to re-tile it for us and I had to change the drain because that was a problem as well. I chipped out all of the drain pan cement and tile and the curb. The tile guy said we had to remove the metal drain pan. I think it is lead. So, I cut the cement away from the first course of tile at the bottom, which went OK. So, Now I have the metal pan sides. I'm having a real problem trying to pull out the corners and have some sections of the sides still up there. They seem to go under the second course of tiles. I can cut it down and could leave it there.
Two questions:
1: Can I just leave what it left of the shower pan and have the tile guy use just a bit less thickness on the mud in those areas? It's only the thickness of the old pan?
2: Any good ideas on how to pull out the folded corners?
