    If a parent doesn't see a child for a year can they terminate his rights?
    My fiancé is going through this, his ex hasn't let him see his daughter in a little under a year, she moved about an hour away. She applied for cash aid about a month ago and css opened a case, my fiancé has no way of paying child support, he doesn't have a job at the present time (im hoping soon) we can barely support our own son, we have to ask our parents for help (so annoying). And my fiancés ex has a new man in her life that is called daddy by their daughter

    So my question is, since I went on a rant, after almost a year can they terminate his rights or can he just do it himself

    We live in CA by the way

    I've been googling for about an hour now on what he can do and I can't find one thing

    You aren't looking it the right places. I've moved this to the Family Law forum. If you browse this forum you will find thousands of similar threads.

    No he cannot terminate his rights. No she cannot terminate his rights. Only a court can issue a TPR and they are not likely to do so. Yes, CSS will require he pay support to at least offset what the taxpayer has to pay for HIS child.

    If he wants to see his daughter, he has to go to court to establish or enforce a visitation order. Visitation is separate from support, so even if he has no income to pay support, he can still get visitation.
