    Lighting Airtemp(Chrysler Corp.) Furnace
    We have the following: mod#4365 s/n#6823 032

I need to know how to light the pilot. The instructions aren't clear (at least to me) as to where to apply the match.

    Here are the instructions:

    1. Make sure that both the main gas valve and pilot valve have been closed at least five minutes before proceeding.

    2. See NOTE below. Open pilot valve and light pilot. (See step 3.)

    3. If unit is equipped with pilot igniter, open igniter cock (not furnished on all models.) Press button on igniter. Apply match to runner tube and hold button until pilot ignites. Close igniter cock.

    4. If furnace is equipped with baso pilot switch wait one minute and press reset button on top of switch. Indicator should show "on" when button is released.

    5. Open Manual gas valve.

    6. Turn on electric switch controlling furnace (if switch is provided).

    7. Set thermostat to desired temperature. Furnace should operate automatically.

NOTE: If unit is equipped with combined pilot and hand valve, omit steps 2, 4, 5 and proceed as follows:

    Turn handle to pilot position.
Press red button and light pilot.
Hold button until pilot flame remains after releasing button.
    Turn handle to "ON" position.

The instructions are very clear but I understand that a non HVAC person would not understand them. Since safety is a concern I suggest you call your local utility/gas supplier for assistance. I recommend this because most utility/gas suppliers will usually light the furnace for FREE and you can watch exactly how they do it then you will know. This is your safest and best bet. Sorry but I do not feel comfortable in trying to explain the directions you provided since they contain more than one way or device to use to do it and I cannot see exactly what equipment came on the furnace or since it is a older model what has been changed over the years due to previous repairs.
