John Deere Lawn Tractor 145 PTO Clutch
    I have a John Deere 145
    Serial Number GX0145A016096
    Engine Number 051209YG15224
Date of Manufacture 22 Dec 2005
I was mowing the mower suddenly stopped. At first, I found a dead fuse. After changing the fuse, the starter would not crank the engine. The only noise was a "clank". I could not turn the crank by hand. I found that 3 wires to the PTO clutch were ripped out. When I removed the steel "strap" that holds the PTO clutch from spinning, I could turn the crank by hand. The steel "strap" looks worn shinny and thin on the tab that inserts into the PTO clutch. I found where 1 black wire and 1 white wire can be reconnected, but I can't find a diagram showing a the other black wire. (Both black wires attach to one prong of the 2 prong wire connector that plugs into the PTO clutch. Can you tell me what parts I need?

John Deere Model 160 Lawn Tractor Clutch and/or Transmission Problems [ 1 Answers ]

Either my clutch needs to be adjusted or my transmission is shot. I looked at the clutch assembly for about an hour but could discover no way to try adjusting it. How do I determine if it's the clutch adjustment or the transmission.
