Nj law... What are my rights as a tenant
I live in the state of NJ. My son and I (and occasionally my other son) have been staying with a guy for the past 9 months in a trailer he owns but he rents the property and I am not on the lease. (However he did ask the landlord if he can put me on the lease and they said yes, however we had not added me yet.) I would give him roughly 800 a month. I have no receipts of the payments.
He has become obsessed with me and I have started to notice my personal belongings missing and then I found a letter of mine from an ex boyfriend in his car. Do to this and other bad gut feelings, I took my child and had him drop me off at another friends home. After he dropped me off he texted me "That I need to get out." I told him I will be looking for a place of my own.
The few days to follow he has texted me harassing things. When I tried stopping by to get a few belongings he started screaming at the friend who drove me there so I left. I have texted him telling him not to touch my belongings and I will be back to get stuff. He now texted me saying he has put a few belonging on the porch. (Its suppose to rain tonight)

I don't know what my rights are. Am I allowed to go get my stuff? Is someone able to help me get them? Is he allowed to touch my belongings? Am I considered a tenant? I hope to be able to get a place but what happens if I have no where's to go, would I have the right to go back?

The problem here is you have apparently left. So You should be able to get your belongings, but I doubt if you can move back. Its iffy since some of your belongings are there. You can get them, if he refuses to let you call the police and have them supervise getting your things.

Had you not moved out he would have had to go through the legal process to remove you.

Do you mean that his text message read that you "need to get out"?

To have gotten you out legally ( if you had not already left) he had to give a 30 day notice in writing and evict you as any renter has to be.

But since you left, you gave up that right, call the police see if a officer will go out with you to allow you to get your property.
