What type of worms hang out a dogs anus?
My 1 year old shiz tsu has recently started nibbling her anus. She seems very agitated and its clearly causing her a lot of discomfort. I've checked her anus and it looks like a tip of a brown worm is just peeping out. She doesn't or never had fleas but she does have a tendency to eat her own excrement, could this be the cause? Could it be a worm or something else? She's always been very fit and healthy and had her boosters, she used to be a very routined eater with meals and snacks in between but past 2 days she's been off her food. I have to sit with her and feed her by hand, she's also seems to be wanting constant cuddles, which of course isn't a problem, she gets lots of cuddles but she seems to be in pain and jumps up and hides her face after nibbling.I'm very worried anf booked in her vets but is could it be as simple as a de-wormer? I feel awful and want to help her get better. Can anybody help or advise me further ? Thank you

If your question is whether I would treat her without a consultation with a Vet, the answer is no.

Yes, eating her excrement could be re-cycling the worms. Do you pick up after her to break the habit?

She's in pain and the Vet doesn't think it's a semi-emergency and she should be seen immediately?
