Don't Buy Domain Names from PacNames.com!

Everyone knows that you should not purchase domain names from PacNames, but I would like to share my transfer success story with you in the hopes that, if you had the same problem as I did, you may be able to use it also. (To see Pacnames reputation search for "TotalNIC" on Google. Pacnames is the new name of TotalNIC.)

I was successful after 5 months of constantly hassling the $&!# out of TotalSuck (now Pacnames), ICANN, and the registrar to whom I was transferring the domain.

I don't know how it finally happened, but in mid-November 2004 I was able to change my domain status from REGISTRAR-LOCK to ACTIVE at my TotalSuck account. Up until then I wasn't even able to access my account.

One thing that may have helped me is choosing a gaining registar with whom I had a very good relationship. The gaining registrar is the one TO whom the domain is being transferred.

Another thing that may have helped me is constantly nagging Ellen Sondheim. Ellen works for ICANN. Her email is [sondheim at icann.org] and her phone number is (310) 823-9358. Don't expect her to return any emails or phone calls though. To communicate with her was a laborious process. I had to ask the admin at ICANN to ask Ellen any questions I had, then wait on the phone or call her back for the answers. Finally though, this even got on Ellen's nerves and she spoke with me. When I spoke with her she told me that the new transfer policy at ICANN | Transfers was going to solve my problem, but when I spoke with the gaining registrar they told me that the policy did not pertain to domains that were in a REGISTRAR-LOCK process. This is as far as I got before my domain status was set to ACTIVE at TotalSuck. In you case you may need to delve further I recommend conferencing both Ellen and your gaining registrar on the phone line together.
