Claiming moving expenses twice on a joint return
This year I moved twice, each time relocating for work, so I am wondering if I could claim the moving expenses twice on a joint return with my wife. The first move occurred when my wife got a job about 100 miles from our home on the east coast in April. She lost her job in 2010 and was unemployed for almost a year. We decided to move close to her work for several reasons. Her job demanded her to be at the office each day while I could work from home most of the times, I encountered less traffic on my commute, and my job was contractual and supposed to end in July anyway. Then I got a new job but it was on the west coast. Therefore I moved without her to the new city and we maintain our coast to coast marriage.

Both of our relocations satisfy the criteria for deducting moving expenses on federal tax return. I know we can claim each own moving expenses if we file taxes separately, but I am wondering if it is possible to claim two moving expenses on a joint return in our situation.

You are correct in that BOTH of your moves meets the criteria specified by the IRS regulations, so, yes, you CAN claim the expenses from BOTH moves.
