Turn EVERYTHING off. No radio, no TV, no computer, no video games... or study in a room without all of those... force yourself. Its hard at first, but with time it will become a habit.

Make flash cards for facts and trivia information. Make some every evening, so you will then have a lot of them to review with before the midterm and final.

For example, on one side print 9x8, and on the other side print 72. On one side print patella, and on the other side print knee. On one side print I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country, and on the other side print Nathan Hale. Of course, print the facts and trivia from your assignments.

I think it will help you if you figure out what your learning style is. For instance, I'm really auditory. I love lecture classes because we don't have to do projects and I can just sit and absorb. I remember something best when I've heard it out loud. Reading also works well for me as I tend to retain things well after I have read them. I hated charts, group projects, and lots pictures. I can't study in quiet either.. my mind wanders. I usually need noise or music to focus, which is weird. (I can't even sleep in the quiet)

What works for me doesn't work for everybody. Figuring out how you learn best will be help you to develop techniques that work for you. If you are really visual, you may want to consider doing slides or cards of your study points. Is you are more auditory, you may want to tape your classes, listen to them later, and note key points as a way of reinforcing them. Would a group help you to stay focused, or would you find the others distracting? Do you focus best in absolute quiet, or do you thrive in chaos and do your best work under pressure?

My college had a counselor that helped students develop study habits that fit their particular learning style. Check and see if student services at your school has a similar option.
