Can an engine burn synthetic oil once changing over to synthetic oil?

My car ( 4-cylinder Nissan Sentra) was introduced to synthetic oil @ ~ 90,000 miles. My oil light went on @ ~7,300 into using the synthetic oil. Had to add ~2 1/2 quarts of synth blend oil. Why did my car burn this oil? My mechanic had said that " some cars burn synthetic oil when first introduced"...
I have exterior oil leak... not into radiator which oil sealant is the best for a car?

OK MY 97 jetta was spewing oil from above the filter cranked the car and the oil light came on. Checked the oil level and discovered antifreeze mixed in the oil. Is it a blown head or possible that d/t oil cooler o-ring failure that it leaked into the engine? Should I flush out oil and change...

All right, problems with this car are coming up constantly. I just found out my Civic 91 DX has been driving on mineral based 15W40 oil for at least 6 years now.
