    Cant start my furnace
I have a goodman gas forced air furnace. It is only 3 years old. I turn it off in the summer to save a few bucks on my gas bill. It should be very simple, Turn on gas valve, switch on electric ignition switch, and it should start up. I did this last year without any problems. This year nothing happens. I have checked the breakers and have checked the ground fault reset button on the outlet. I even had a friend who is a plummer (not an expert on furnaces) look at it and he thought maybe there was air in the gas line and tried to bleed it. The gas company want to charge me $100 for someone to come turn it on for me... that's just crazy! Any advise?

It sounds like you have air in the gas line or a dirty sensor. It's not a good idea to turn off the unit in summer. You save very little, maybe $.50. Try turning it on and lighting pilot manually. More than likely you have dust on a sensor or moisture which will not build up when the pilot light is left on. There is a rod on many that senses the current through the pilot light and when dirty it will not sense and the pilot light will not light. All you need to do is to look at it and clean off that rod with some fine sandpaper. It takes about 15 minutes to do it. DrTom4444
