    Central air problems
I am having to reset my furnace switch for the heater to continue to work. I will wake up and it is freezing in the house and I check the temp. and it is below the preset temp. If you try to turn it on manually on the thermostat, it won't work until I go downstairs to the furnace and flip the switch off and on a few times until I hear it kick on. Then it will be fine until it stops working again and the cycle repeats. It is getting worse now because before, I had to do this only every few days, now it is most everyday, no matter the time of day. It was doing this with the air conditioner this past summer as well, so I know it is not just the heater. It is a Lennox elite series that is the original since we built the house 16 yrs. Ago. It has never had any problems before and has never been serviced for any reason. I change the filters regularly, so this is not the problem. It also seems harder to get it to kick back on now. I also have learned that if I turn the fan on switch on on the thermostat and then go flip the switch, you can hear it kick on easier and then when it does, I go back up and turn the fan off and put it back to auto. With winter coming, I am concerned. Any ideas besides the obvious of calling a proffessional to look at it? I just hate to do that if it is somehting I can do myself and save on $. Thanks.

Parents used to have central air. You got to change the filter, it's easy and it costs about $3.00 to get a new filter from the appliance store. They need to be changed every 30 days.

This is not correct. My central AC filter is in the $60 range and gets changed every 4 months because I have dogs and dog hair. I do have a bedroom unit (because I don't necessarily run the central air at night) and those filters are $3.00 each.

It's a cheap filter you get it and go outside and change it. I don't know anything about 60.00 filter. Maybe that's how yours work, it's not incorrect I know what the filter my parent used and how much it cost them. You should get a different filter that's cheaper

The filter is not the problem. As mentioned in my above question, the filter gets changed on a regular basis.

I realize that - I was "simply" correcting someone else's post about how filters are changed in CENTRAL air conditioners.

Wish I had an idea for you but I don't. I know when I had problems with mine (I have since replace the heating and AC units) I had an independent look at the system instead of a company because of cost... but I'm sure you're aware of that.

I would be interested in knowing which central units have disposable, change once a month, filters, particularly if this is an option.

I was actually responding to that other person. I am new to this and see that you know how to attach the quote that you are responding to which is a good idea. I am trying to do the same on this reply. We will see if it works. If not, let me know how you do it as it could avoid a lot of confusion. I am not a computer savvy person. Thanks.
