Incomplete criminal records
Must come out of retirement. Need money for health care. In depth criminal records checks standing in my way. 1968 conviction 'involved in B&E=receiving stolen goods/glty/susp sent/1 yr. Prob'. The problem is that Maryland CJIS record only shows arrest number. No CASE NUMBER! No indication on weather this was a misdemeanor or felony. Court records have been destroyed. Expungement and pardon forms require a case number.Have not been arrested since then, 43 years ago. Live in GA. Now. Any thoughts?

Why do you feel your long ago conviction hampers you in getting a job? What sort of occupation are you thinking of pursuing that this would come into play?

Have you had a NCIC report ( that is the national report) the one normally used and seen what it says, It is not uncommon for 40 year old files not to even be in the system.
Also if it does not say, then they can't say it was a felony if you say it was not ?
But you hire an attorney and ask for this record to be deleted since there is no supporting documentation as to trial, conviction and record if you really want it gone.

Chuck thanks. Yeah; the Maryland website stated computer records go back to 84. Microfiche go back to 71. Records over 12 years old are destroyed. Except for capital cases. Have FBI request filled out. Maybe THEY have a case or docket number. Will send this week. Salute from Canton, GA.
Twink; Thanks for your reply. Ever since 9/11 many employers are doing in depth criminal searches where they didn't before. Maybe insurance requirements or just company policy. Who knows? The way my record reads; it's a heaver charge than the actual charge at time of trial. I want to go back to truck driving. Been out of the seat for 12 years. Still have CDL but all companies want recient experience. Will have to be 'trained'. Yeah; 22 years exp being trained by some guy with a couple of years. I love it. Most all trucking companies good and bad do complete backround checks.

That stands for "Criminal Justice Information System", I assume? A police database? Have you checked with the clerk of the court? Courts usually keep their own records.

AK; You're right. It's like the federal system. It's a repository for criminal info. Emailed circuit court reporter on friday; as I wanted all details. They got back to me. Said they had no transcript. Said IF the records were available; The clerk of the court would need either the case OR docket number. Hopefully FBI/Ncic will have more info than Maryland does. Thanks for your interest.
