Depends on how many 3 conductor wires you are planning to use. 1 hot on each bussbar and a common neutral yields 2 circuits for each 3 conductor wire. Or do I misunderstand your question?

A single phase system will allow two phase conductors to share a neutral, 3 phase would be three phase conductors.

Sharing neutrals is not recommended in a well designed system. An open or broken neutral will cause abnormally high voltages to be introduced into the circuits and cause damage.

The link below illustrates a pair of circuits in my sister's house. Would these circuits meet NEC if I just move one circuit to a breaker on the other bus, or do I need to isolate the circuits from each other anyway? Image of BadCircuits - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Dryer wiring 3 prong -- neutral wire? [ 10 Answers ]

Hi-- I am trying to wire what seems to be a 3-prong dryer into a 4-prong dryer receptacle. If I understand correctly, I need to disconnect the ground from the neutral on the back of the dryer, and hook them up separately to my 4-wire cord -- the ground wire is the added 4th wire. However,...

Sharing neutral and grounds OK? [ 2 Answers ]

I am looking for clarification on sharing neutrals and grounds. When using 12/3 wire for home runs to panel , I believe it is OK to use the black for 1 circuit and the red for another circuit ( say black for plugs in a room and red for lights ). But is there a danger of overloading the neutral and...

2 generators sharing same neutral [ 2 Answers ]

The company at which I work has two small 5.5kva generators we were hoping to be able to use both of them in case of emergency. The idea would be to power two different circuits through the circuit breaker box with the high side separate but the neutral returns common to both. Is there any inherent...
