    Banging pipes.
We have an old 1924 house with the original claw foot tub. Every time we turn on the hot water faucet water does not immediately come out & it starts banging so violently that it shakes. How can we fix it?

    Hi Llawlor...

Most likely the issue will be up in the hot water side of the faucet itself (see example of one type of old clawfoot tub faucet). Here, you would shut the water flow off to the faucet and then you would loosen/remove the handle and packing nut on the hot water side of the faucet and access the WASHER INSIDE. Most likely this washer has become loose and will need to be reattached/replaced.

If it is an original faucet then I recommend leaving this to an experienced plumber as he/she may be able to save the unit. Otherwise, you may be better off replacing the valve.

    That's where I would start... ;)
