I moved into a place and when I moved in the landlord told me that there was a piano and a desk left there by the owners of the house as they had to move to newfoundland and didn't take it with them. He told me at the time I went to sign the lease and had not moved in yet that either I could have to piano and desk or he could arrange for someone to get it out of there for me. I agreed to keep the items as I understood they were gifts. When I moved out six months later (because he came to fix toilette and it overflowed in middle of night and ruined a lot of the place which needed to be redone) I was told I needed to get all of my stuff out. When it all was removed including the piano and desk which were sold on kijiji ($150) along with a bunch of my other stuff because the new place I was moving into was smaller. A few weeks later he messages me asking where the piano is. I tell him I sold it I understood it was mine, I have copy of lease with nothing mentioning this on it. He emailed me a copy where he wrote in the piano on it. Never heard anything about it for about six months and get a call yesterday from rcmp saying there is a warrant for my arrest and am served papers saying for me to go to court this morning. Charged with theft over 5000.00 . I did not make any plee just asked for my disclosure and time to get a lawyer, I was wondering how much jail time can I get for this?
