    Shower trap installation
I'm installing a new shower stall, replacing a tub/shower. My brother was going to help with the plumbing, but he says that the trap has to be higher than the drain pipe. He said that I would have to raise the shower base up about 6 inches in order to do this. That would be pretty impossible. This is in a mobile home and the drain pipe enters in above the floor. I'm in a deadlock right now. Took 5 days off work to get this done and only have 2 left. Thanks for your help!

I am going to try to get this moved to plumbing where you will get better answers. Your brother is not a plumber I am guessing, tell him to stay home before he wrecks your place. Traps are lower than the drain unless water runs uphill in your brothers house. Any chance of a picture and tell us where you live. Where does the sink drain to and are there any drain lines running under the home, there must be some.

Your tub/shower drain is located in the sub floor or your unit and I can see no reason that would stop you from connecting the shower trap to the tub drain line, I have worked in mobile home factories and pretty much know what's under the floor. As Bob sezs. Leave the brother at home and maintain slop on the drain line. Good luck, Tom

From the bottom of the shower drain you need to have a straight pipe @ least 12inches going down before you install the p-trap or it will not drain properly. So this is the easiest and most efficient way. First go underneath the trailer where the drain for the tub should be. Cut a hole in the under pining in an X shape just big enough for you to work around in. Glue in your 12inch piece of pipe attach your new p-trap and connect new pipe into the sewer line outside. You'll have to get a T for sewer line to connect it back together and the T end will connect your new tub drain. Rap insulation around the p-trap and tape it up. Slide in a piece of paneling in the hole you cut and tape the underpinning to the paneling and your done. If the p-trap is insulated it will not freeze and the new drain line going to the sewer should be @ a 45degree angle so no water will be in it to freeze. It will drain clean into the sewer line. I'm doing a job like this now on a mobile home and this is the easiest and best way for proper drainage. Best Regards!
