    Paralegal is slacking...
3 months ago I paid a paralegal 500.00 to file for guardianship of the estate for my minor child. She initially said one week to fill out the papers then possibly six weeks once they are filed. I have yet to sign one copy of one petition, she just keeps saying " there is so many extra papers". Can I get my money back? Thank you

Since no paperwork has been drawn up ask for your money back. You should get it otherwise you may turn them in and have their paralegal license yanked by the state. There should be no reason this has not been accomplished.

Also, you should speak to the Law Firm where the para legal is employed and advise them of this. If no law firm, then contact the state where you are in and go from there if they won't refund your money.

The paralegal may not know what they are doing as the guardianship of the estate of a minor child is not that involved and should have only taken an hour or two to draw up.

First does the paralegal work for a law firm or do they have their own independent office.
** many states allow paralegals to practice as paralegals without an attorney, They can give no advice, the merely produce the forms from information provided to them.

I can't see a independent paralegal having this format to do this detailed legal work.

Chuck - this type of paperwork is mostly boiler plate stuff depending on the state and is not very detailed when you come down to it.

Will take your word for it. Most of the paralegals ( ones that work in private) do mostly non contest divorce, bankruptcy, and a few other simple issues.

They have bought programs from legal supply and really just do fill in the blank.

My guess what they want done is not in their program base and they are still trying to buy one and still make a profit
    ** but just guessing
