    Becoming a paralegal if you're an ex-felon
Do you know if a person can become a paralegal if they have a first degree felony on their record?

In my experience, sure. After that it depends upon whether paralegals are licensed/certified and can pass the ethics part, whether they can find a job with a felony conviction.

You have known legal assistants that have gotten jobs with records?

Yes, absolutely. There is a difference between legal assistants and paralegals.

I work with a criminal law firm that has someone on parole working as a legal assistant. He does FANTASTIC research - was sort of a "Jail Attorney" and learned how to research.

    Hello Dude:

There is no official designation called "paralegal" or "legal assistant". From a practical standpoint, they're interchangeable.

Having said that, there are states that license paralegals. But as long as ALL of them don't, there's really no legal standard of what a paralegal is.
