    I help my nice to bought a house and now I received a 1099c I never deducted ani mortgage interest and I never lived on the house

    She deducts the interest she paid. You pay taxes on it. Living there or not doesn't apply.

    I don't understand why you received a 1099-C, which is a form used by lenders in case of cancellation of debt. You typically receive a 1099-C if you defaulted on a mortgage or credit card. Did you? Were you paying the mortgage on your daughter's property, and did the two of you default?

I had a credit debt of $14,000 and settled to pay 7,000, which I had borrowed from my brother. How does this affect me filing my taxes? The 1099 C is for $7,000. By adding this as other income, I think it will make me owe quite a bit ot the IRS. Can you shed some light on this.
