My new daschhund can't let me out of his sight!
I recently adopted an 11 month old dashhund puppy. He has decided that he must always be at my side, no matter where I am or what I'm doing. The big problem though is that if I do not allow him to follow me (i.e. close the door), he will poop on the spot, even if he's been outside for an hour not 2 minutes before. His previous owner swears he was house-broken but he's had issues since he's come home with us. He did share his old home with another dog. He doesn't just poop in the house, he pees too but not as often. Its as though he's angry and is retaliating. We never seem to be able to catch him in the act.

He also piddles when I pay attention to him, something that he is beginning to do with the rest of my family too.

I'm almost at the point where I'm going to re-home him but really don't want to do that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Think like a puppy. You lived in a house with a nice lady who had rules for you to follow and you had a doggy friend and you knew what to expect and knew where everything was. Then, suddenly, you were put in a different house with new smells and new people to get used to and no doggy friend -- and worst of all no rules or at least new rules.

    What's a puppy to do??

    Is he ever crated?

Have you talked with the previous owner about any of this, about her rules?

Have you ever had a dog before this?

Has he been vet-checked since you brought him home?

    Is he neutered?

Your dog suffers from anxiety. It comes from being over excited when you pay attention to them. They crave it so bad they piddle. Reguler attention and reassurances will stop this from happening. Many dogs do this after long periods of separation or not being given enough attention. Love your dog and they will love you back and they will get used to how you interact with them and become less excited (not a bad thing) and at least that portion of it will stop.
